Outlook and Microsoft 365
The current Transactions mailbox form cannot connect Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, or Microsoft 365 Exchange Online mailboxes. It accepts an IMAP username and password, but does not offer Microsoft's OAuth sign-in.
The Outlook provider option only fills in a server hostname and port. It does not authorize access to a Microsoft account.
Why an app password does not solve this
Outlook.com requires OAuth2 / Modern Authentication for IMAP. Microsoft lists outlook.office365.com, port 993, and SSL/TLS, but those settings still require an OAuth-capable client. See Microsoft's Outlook.com settings.
For work and school mail hosted by Exchange Online, Microsoft has removed Basic authentication for IMAP. App passwords do not restore that access. See Microsoft's Exchange Online authentication guidance.
What to do next
- If you use the Outlook desktop or mobile app to read Gmail, Yahoo, or another provider's mail, follow the guide for that underlying provider. The Outlook app does not determine where your mailbox is hosted.
- If Microsoft hosts your mailbox, contact Transactions support about Microsoft OAuth support before attempting setup.
- If you have another compatible mailbox, you can arrange for your bank or payment provider to send future alerts directly there, then connect that mailbox. Confirm the alerts arrive before relying on the import.
- For a company-run Exchange server, ask your administrator for its actual IMAP settings and permitted authentication method. Microsoft 365 settings may not apply.
You can still set up the CLI to read data already available in your organization.
